December Day in Pensacola (12/12/07)

As lemon leaves rustled in the slightest wind
My father and I had a morning’s work to begin:
We mixed water, pebbles and powdery gray
To help our sturdy fence posts sit and stay.
Then I raked the yard of crunchy leaves
While chimes played merry in a delicate breeze.
As others shiver in snow and ice storms,
I still see the sun, I still feel its warmth.
So while living in Florida isn’t always so good
At least today I give thanks, as I more often should
To be where I don’t worry about driving on ice
Where even in December, the beach is nice!
And flowers might bloom, a sweet surprise.
Yes, today I couldn’t criticize
Mother Nature’s contrary ways.
Thanks, Universe, for these Florida days.
